Team Coaching
Team Coaching is about working with a group of people where there are issues or problems
which impact on their effective working. Often teams get stuck and to re-visit their
common purpose; by bringing people together to identify their common purpose and
their perceived issues, means moving towards finding a solution. Team coaching is set up in
a positive way of looking forward to outcomes and identifying commonality in a number of
areas, such as purpose, values, behaviour and action to be taken. Often agreeing to the way
in which team tasks are perceived starts the process of effective team working.
Case Study (here or in Judith's page as a team coaching case study)
A small team within an adult college of education was struggling in introducing as a
new qualification for its students. Each of the team members had different responsibilities
in trying to make it happen, which resulted in one person concentrating on
developing materials, another marketing the new course to its potential clients and the
third person attempting to understand the requirements of the awarding body.. However, as
a team they lacked a common approach which resulted in a duplication of effort, mixed
messages and a lack of certainty about team purpose. - which was impacting on the
development of the new qualification. By identifying the common purpose of the team
in relation to the new qualification, the members were able to discuss how they might go
about achieving their common outcome and how each of them went about their work impacted
on each other. They decided on how to keep each other informed, how to support each other
and what steps they could take together to complete the task on time.
